Everything you need to understand and get started with CPA Architect.
What is CPA Architect?
CPA Architect is a platform for B2B and EDI teams that automates the creation and management of ebXML 2.0 Collaboration Protocol Agreements (CPAs). Instead of hand-crafting complex XML documents, you configure your partners and processes through a simple interface — CPA Architect generates a finished, schema-validated CPA document for you.
CPA Architect currently supports the ebXML 2.0 standard. It is designed to run inside your own infrastructure — your data never has to leave your network.
Key Concepts
Partners
A Partner is any organisation you exchange business messages with. For each partner you store their identifier (GLN, DUNS, or custom), their security certificates, and how they prefer to receive messages — endpoint address, connection security, and acknowledgement settings.
Processes & Actions
A Process groups one or more Actions. An Action is a single message exchange — for example a Purchase Order sent from Buyer to Supplier. Processes are reusable: define them once and attach them to as many partner pairs as needed.
These are the correct CPA Architect terms. 'Business Transaction Catalogue' is the underlying ebXML concept; inside the product it is always called Processes and Actions.
CPA Documents
A CPA (Collaboration Protocol Agreement) is the finished output: an ebXML 2.0 XML document that two partners exchange to formally agree on how they will communicate — which messages are sent, over which channels, and with what security. CPA Architect generates and validates this document automatically from your stored partner and process configuration.
Teams & Workspaces
A Team is an isolated workspace. Partners, processes, and CPAs inside one team are never visible to another team. This lets you run multiple business units, regions, or customer accounts on a single CPA Architect installation without data mixing.
User Roles
Access is controlled by four roles:
Viewer
Can browse all data within their team but cannot make any changes.
Editor
Can create and edit partners and processes, and generate CPAs within their team.
Team Admin
Can manage team membership and all data within their team.
Global Admin
Has access to all teams and platform-wide settings.
